Rig Veda
by Daniel Nakazono
The Rig Veda was originally passed down by oral tradition to the next generations. It is a collection of around one-thousand hymns about the hindu gods. This collection of hindu mythology is oldest of the four Vedas, which are the oldest of hindu scriptures. The first time it was written down, it was in Vedic, an early form of sanscrit.
Harappan society and culture could have influenced some of the hymns. This is because they written by the Aryans near the end of the Harappan civilization.
Though there are many vedas, the Rig veda is the most important to hindu culture for it is directly directed toward the hindu gods. Through the vedas, the hindu praised their gods with the hymns in poetic form.
