Sculptures often placed in religious temples, depicted characters of significance in the faith. In Greece, a pantheon of sculptures were carved for their pantheon of gods. In india, many sculptures were carved with intricate detail of the Hindu, and Buddhist faiths.
This is a sculpture of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, it is made out of marble.
Sculptures weren't only carved for temples and religion. In Greece, the human body was admired, therefore many artisans sculpted the human body in many different poses and contemplations.
