Pictographs

Pictographs are a form of communication depicted in small standardized images resembling ideas and concepts. Pictographs were used in many ancient civilizations as an early writing system. However often mistaken with hieroglyphs, pictographs stand for the object idea or sound that is shown in the image, sometimes hieroglyphs have no relation. Pictographs can even still be understood to this day because of their literal resemblance to its meaning and the image shown.
These are some pictographs depicting nature. As you can see, the image that looks like the sun, or the moon actually means the sun or moon.
