Political
Post-Modern Middle East has undergone many cultural revolutions and oppositions which has caused conflict in this region, especially in a small nation by the name of Israel. Israel had undergone many struggles to become the independent nation that it today. And even today Israel has many problems. In 1917 a Zionist movement, the Balfour Declaration, which presented "Palestine" as the national home for the Jewish People. Six years later Britain mandated over Palestine through the League of Nations. In 1938, many Jews, from hearing of other Jews who had better lives in Palestine, over 500,000 Jews migrated to Palestine in hopes of better lives. A year later, right before WWII, the Balfour Declaration was violated when Britain began limiting the number of Jews allowed to immigrate to Palestine. In 1945 a new League entered the picture. The Arab League aimed to control Arabs role in world dilemmas, especially if they could oppose Israel. Still dealing with the problem of too many Jew immigrations to Israel, in 1947, the British hand this problem over to be solved by the UN. After many periods of power changes, finally on February 16, 1948 Israel proclaims independence and becomes the Middle Easts only Democratic state. In the neighboring country of Egypt, the second president of Egypt, Gamel Abdel Nasser Hussein died in 1970, and his power was passed to Anwar al-Sadat. Egypt then changed it's foreign policy by ridding of their connections with the Soviet Union. Two years later, the Soviet Union left Egypt. In 1974 the Palestinians substitute a new representative for their people, the PLO, or Palestinian Liberation Organization. In 1988 Palestine became a state and Jerusalem became it's capital.
Economy
In order to improve their economy and income of revenue, OPEC was formed to improve the Oil exporting business in the middle east. The region is diverse in economy. Such cities as Dubai are extremely advanced and have the worlds tallest building, while others don't have many tall buildings at all.
Religion
The Middle East is an important place in many world religions such as Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and many other faiths. This has caused much conflict between the people and governments in the Middle East. Especially in efforts to claim the Holy site of Israel, or Palestine (as it is known as by some groups of people). These three religions, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam originated here however all in different times. Islam in 7th century CE, Christianity in 2nd century CE, and Judaism in the 1st century CE.
Society
The Middle East has always been a place where religion has shaped the regions history. For example, people dress not by social standards or how the government makes them dress. People dress according to how their religion suggests. Many woman still wear a veil while there entire body is covered, also many have head dresses. However this is mostly because of religious advisions. As you would see people dressed here in the United States.
Innovations
In 1960, in efforts to improve their profit from oil, OPEC (or an Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) emerged. This Organization consists of six non-Arab states, and 7 Arab states. Lots of different architecture, example the Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the world, and also some funky looking buildings as well.
Arts and Architecture
The middle east has a lot of history therefore still has many old buildings. From old housing sites to old worship centers. This contains some intersting looking mosques built almost two thousand years ago. However since new technological developments, modern buildings have arose. The richest city in the world, Dubai has the tallest building in the world. Many tall buildings have been built for business (skyscrapers). Some are funky looking.
Near Geographic
The middle east does not have any natural barriers that separate its borders from the rest of the world. THe middle east includes regions from Egypt and east to Iran.
